On Feburary 3rd and 10th, LIOEHC will be conducting physical examinations and health screenings at the Freeport Trailer for day labor workers. The visit will be in collaboration with CoLoKi Inc, a non-profit organization that runs the Freeport trailer with the help of all the day laborers themselves. We have worked with the Department of Labor to provide free influenza vacciunations to job seekers to prevent the spread of common strands of influenza virus and further promote health awareness.

We thank the workers who came out for the Freeport Trailer Clinic and, of course, Liz O'Shaughnessy for her help in coordination and planning the health screening visit. We screened 18 day labor workers that with some that hadn't gotten a physical examination in years. We look forward to more collaborations with the Freeport Trailer and other day labor organizations in the future. The Long Island Occupational and Environmental Health Center offered glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings, along with education to prevent
work-related injuries and improve general health conditions for migrant and underserved
agricultural workers on Long Island. The Long Island Occupational and Environmental Health Center will be offering another migrant clinic for the Half Hollow Nursery farmers on October 6th 2010. Read More...
